PRESS RELEASE

Warren County Sheriff Daniel T. McEathron advised that on January 18 and 21, 2013, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office conducted “Active Shooter Response” training at the Warren County Public Safety Building and the Warren County Middle School.  The two-day course consisted of eight hours each day of in depth response training and focused on responding to active shooter incidents and the coordination of efforts in rescuing victims.

Collaboration with the Warren County public school officials resulted in the ability to use the school facility as a training site while classes were not in session due to the holidays.

Instruction was provided by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office special operations team and was assisted by members of the Front Royal Police emergency response team.  Over 90 law enforcement officers from the Sheriff’s Office, Front Royal Police Department and the Virginia State Police attended.  The Warren County Sheriff’s Office has conducted this type of training since the late 1990s.  Training is conducted for new law enforcement personnel as well as refresher training for veteran officers.  This specialized training is provided to keep law enforcement personnel educated and prepared to respond to critical incidents.
