Local Court Information

Specific information about Warren County Courts can be found by using the following link http://www.courts.state.va.us/. Courthouse Security Checkpoint

To avoid delays and possibly miss your scheduled hearing, it is recommended that you check your pockets, parcels, and key rings to ensure you have no items that could conceivably be used as a weapon. Do not overlook items such as pocket knives and fingernail clippers. You will not be permitted beyond the checkpoint with anything questionable. Leave these things at home or in your vehicle. Plan ahead, arrive early, and allow time to pass through the security checkpoint. 

 


 

Courtroom Demeanor

The following are some items and activities not permitted in the courtrooms. This is not an all encompassing list.

  •  Food and drinks are not allowed.
  • Chewing gum is not allowed.
  • Newspaper reading is not allowed.
  • Sleeping is not allowed.

Proper attire is required in the courtroom. Clothing items not permitted are shorts, tank tops, flip-flops, any clothing with obscene language or pictures, and any clothing denoting gang affiliation. Head coverings and sunglasses will be removed prior to entry into the courtroom. Conversation in the court gallery will be kept short and will not disrupt court proceedings.  Any communication with inmates, whether verbal or non-verbal, is prohibited. Any communication with inmates will be cause for immediate expulsion from the courtroom with additional possibility of criminal charges being placed against you.

The Warren County Victim Witness Program is located at the Warren County Public Safety Building at 200 Skyline Vista Drive, Front Royal, VA. The Victim Witness Program helps victims receive fair and compassionate treatment throughout the criminal justice process. Serving the Town of Front Royal and the County of Warren, the Victim Witness Program is staffed by a full-time director, Candy Dixon. The primary goals of the program are to help you understand the process of the criminal justice process, provide you with information regarding your case and provide you with referrals for community services.

DEFINITION OF A VICTIM:

Anyone suffering from physical, emotional, or financial harm as a direct result of a felony or certain misdemeanor crimes. The definition of victim includes spouses, children, parents, siblings, grandparents, and guardians of certain victims under the Crime Victim and Witness Rights Act.

 

§ 19.2-11.01. Crime victim and witness rights.

A. In recognition of the Commonwealth's concern for the victims and witnesses of crime, it is the purpose of this chapter to ensure that the full impact of crime is brought to the attention of the courts of the Commonwealth; that crime victims and witnesses are treated with dignity, respect, and sensitivity; and that their privacy is protected to the extent permissible under law. It is the further purpose of this chapter to ensure that victims and witnesses are informed of the rights provided to them under the laws of the Commonwealth; that they receive authorized services as appropriate; and that they have the opportunity to be heard by law enforcement agencies, attorneys for the Commonwealth, corrections agencies, and the judiciary at all critical stages of the criminal justice process to the extent permissible under law. Unless otherwise stated and subject to the provisions of § 19.2-11.1, it shall be the responsibility of a locality's crime victim and witness assistance program to provide the information and assistance required by this chapter, including verification that the standardized form listing the specific rights afforded to crime victims has been received by the victim.

As soon as practicable after identifying a victim of a crime, the investigating law-enforcement agency shall provide the victim with a standardized form listing the specific rights afforded to crime victims. The form shall include a telephone number by which the victim can receive further information and assistance in securing the rights afforded crime victims, the name, address, and telephone number of the office of the attorney for the Commonwealth, and the name, address and telephone number of the investigating law-enforcement agency.

  • Information and Assistance with Protective Orders
  • Information and Assistance with Victims’ Compensation
  • Court Accompaniment
  • Explanation of court procedures and a tour of the courtroom
  • Referrals to social service agencies and counseling agencies
  • Assistance in preparing a Victim Impact Statement
  • Crime prevention information and assistance
  • Assistance in seeking restitution
  • Assistance in applying for compensation with the CICF (Criminal Injuries Compensation Fund)
