On August 5, 2010, The Warren County Sheriff’s Office received an award for the most improved seat belt usage among departments with 26 to 50 officers. The award was presented during the CLICK IT OR TICKET awards luncheon in Harrisonburg, VA. The award recognized the Warren County Sheriff’s Office for improving the seat belt use in their area during the CLICK IT OR TICKET mobilization from a beginning rate of 78% to an ending rate of 90%.
The CLICK IT OR TICKET mobilization ran from May 24 to June 6, 2010. The Warren County Sheriff’s Office conducted enforcement and educational activities during that time. The educational activities included: School Resource Deputy Karen Negron developing an informational booth at both high schools where she distributed information about the importance of buckling up to the students (who are considered a high risk group in regards to occupant safety).
In the enforcement campaign, the sheriff’s office had a total of 281 arrests/citations including: 3 DUI/DUID, 17 safety belt violations, 1 child restraint violation, 1 felony arrest, 1 fugitive apprehended, 9 suspended or revoked drivers and 2 reckless driving citations.
