Deputy Shaie Hofmann was honored as the 2009 Deputy of the Year by the Front Royal American Legion. Deputy Hofmann began her career with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office in 2006. She is law enforcement certified with her primary duties as a School Resource Officer. She has been active with the Sheriff’s Office Youth Camp and is a member of the Crisis/Hostage Negotiations Team.
While performing her duties at the school, Deputy Hofmann was informed about possible abuse occurring involving two of the students. Deputy Hofmann interviewed the children and then contacted at the Department of Social Services (DSS). DSS advised that they would be unable to assist the children in this case. Deputy Hofmann was extremely concerned about the welfare of the children and the children were terrified at the prospects of returning to the residence and possibly being abused further.
Deputy Hofmann pursued a protective order for the children and was able to safely have the children removed from the dangerous situation and placed with a relative. Deputy Hofmann then had to present the children’s case (without the assistance of an attorney) in civil court so the children could stay with the relative when the order expired.
With great care and concern for these children she refused to take no for an answer when it came to protecting them. Her actions were over and above what is expected of a deputy and commendable to say the least.
