Inmate Telephone ScamPRESS RELEASE Sheriff Daniel T. McEathron would like to alert citizens of a telephone scam that is occurring in the Front Royal/Warren County area. The sheriff’s office has received numerous reports of citizens receiving collect telephone calls. The caller may identify himself as a deputy sheriff or may state that he is calling from a correctional facility. The caller may also say that there is a medical emergency and your telephone number is listed as the emergency contact. The caller then tells the person they need to call a nurse at a given telephone number. They are instructed to start the call off by dialing *72 followed by a telephone number. If you dial the number, it allows the suspect to access long distance calls on your line and the calls will be billed to you. Our investigation has proven that this person is not a deputy with the sheriff’s office and the caller identification is only displayed as coming from a payphone. If you receive a call of this nature do not accept the collect call or call the telephone number given. If you do, your telephone account will be billed. If you have any additional information please contact the Warren County Sheriff’s Office at 540-635-4128. * * * * * August 24, 2010

Investigators have determined that the boy arrived at the boat landing with his grandfather and two other family members, ages ten and eleven, to fish and swim. Investigators interviewed the family members and several other witnesses at the scene and have determined that the three boys were playing on the upriver side of the dam when the nine year old boy slipped on rocks in the water and was swept into a large hole on the north end of the dam by the swift water current. Two of the eye witnesses said the boy was very quickly pulled under the water after he fell. The ten year old family member borrowed a cell phone from another person near the dam and called 911. On June 30, 2010 at approximately 12:25 p.m., fire and rescue officials recovered the body of the 9-year old boy. Investigators have determined this to be a very tragic, accidental death. Sheriff Daniel McEathron would like to thank all of the personnel who worked tirelessly through the night as a team to bring this tragedy to conclusion. Sheriff McEathron and the staff of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office extend our deepest sympathy to the family of this young boy. * * * * * * * * Last Updated (Friday, 02 July 2010 12:02) Church BarricadeWarren County Sheriff’s Office reports that Travis Jay Sutherly, age 39, of 1171 Sugar Hill Road, Maurertown, VA, has been formally charged with a class 6 felony for destruction of church property, breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony, and violation of a protective order.
